MPH in Health Management & Policy Degree Programs

Public health involves preventing disease, prolonging life, and promoting health through organized efforts. Health management and policy is a public health specialization that focuses on the management of public health programs and initiatives, and on the analysis of public health policies. In addition to the core disciplines of public health – epidemiology, biostatistics, and health services – this field is closely tied to a number of related subjects, including management sciences, organizational theory and practice, finance, public administration, and economics.

The Master of Public Health in Health Management and Policy program is for those who aspire to have careers as managers and policymakers in the health care system, and who seek to improve the health of communities and targeted populations. There are generally no prerequisites to pursue this degree, and it usually takes two years to complete. Coursework in this concentration can cover wide-ranging topics such as mental health, health insurance, health outcomes, substance abuse treatment, and health economics. Graduates with this concentration can find work for government, private, or community-based public health organizations in such capacities as policy analysts, health care managers, and health services researchers, among others.
